We Did It!

The Resignation Event on Saturday was a great success! There were somewhere between 120-150 people there. The press coverage has been incredible. Thanks to everyone who attended and helped out.

Above is a picture of the Declaration of Independence from Mormonism document that we signed at the event. It basically just says that we resign our status as members and wish our names to be removed from LDS Church records. We had two copies there in case the first one got filled up (which it did!).

Here are links to some of the news stories about the Resignation Event an audio file of the speech John gave right before we marched up Ensign Peak.

  2. I found the event childish and a bit of attention whoring. I also found some of the published stories unbelievable and overly embellished. The one about the bishop telling the wife to get a new husband? Not likely and does not fit with the reality of the Church. If you have to make crap up to make your point, your point must be flawed.

    1. Thanks for reading the article Joshua. What I said about the bishop was did in fact happen, only it was after she went to him requesting he reconsider his decision to prevent me from baptizing my son. The bishop had decided that I was an apostate (and irredeemable) and he told my wife that she would get a new husband in this life or the next. That is doctrine, as I'm sure you know.

I agree with your last sentence, 100%. Now, go hold the church to that standard when you study church history and see where it leads you.

  3. I don't understand all the hoopla about your decision to leave the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This obviously happens across all religions and I don't see other people trying to make such an event a media extravaganza. You have decided to no longer affiliate yourselves with the LDS church. OK...so, move on with your life.

  4. Why are you looking, Fernando? And why does it bother you? Don't people have the right to publicly resign from an organization they feel is untrustworthy and even harmful? If public resignation from Mormonism doesn't interest you, then simply don't pay attention to it. You might want to consider why Mormons wear shirts that say, "Mormon Helping Hands" whenever they're helping with a humanitarian project. And the Church contacts the media about anything positive or neutral having to do with The Church that they think might get coverage. Anyway, I didn't make the Event a "Media Extravaganza." All I did was contact a couple of reporters. You and others like you made the Event a media frenzy. Thanks for your help.

  5. They can leave the Church, they just can't leave it alone.
